│InterBBS Version 1.0│
└─┬─────────────────┬─┘
│December 11, 1994│
└─────────────────┘
Thanks for taking the time to evaluate InterBBS Version 1.0. This is a
MS/PC DOS based Bulletin Board System. It will run admirably in a VDM
(virtual dos machine) under OS/2, under DESQview and under Windows. A
suggested Windows ".PIF" is included. Your system setup, memory and
capability will dictate the optimum settings.
InterBBS is written by Ron Pierce, also the author of several "door"
programs. Ron has been writing bbs software since 1985. He has
introduced several of the more popular features of DOS based bbs
program such as:
■ resuming aborted/incomplete uploads.
■ archive manipulations including reading of text files within archives
and downloading files from within archives.
■ Highlight method of flagging files for download or selecting a file
to perform archive manipulations on.
HARDWARE/MEMORY REQUIREMENTS
────────────────────────────
Processor: 80286/16 Minimum (80386 recommended)
Hard Drive Space: 3.0 Megabytes Free
Memory: 640K
XMS/EMS: 1.0 Megabytes minimum Recommended
Disk Cache: 1.0 Megabytes Minumum Recommended
NODES
─────
InterBBS fully supports up to 250 nodes with no restrictions!
FILE SHARING
────────────
You must run SHARE.EXE prior to starting InterBBS if you are
using MS/PC DOS. Advanced operating systems such as OS/2 handle
file sharing internally and transparently.
UNREGISTERED RESTRICTIONS
─────────────────────────
Until registered, there is an "UNREGISTERED SHAREWARE" notice and a
brief pause when a user logs in. There are no other inconveniences
while running an unregistered InterBBS nor is the software "crippled"
in any manner.
EVALUATE and DECIDE
───────────────────
You are encouraged to evaluate InterBBS thoroughly. One programmer has
created this entire BBS system including over 20 support and utility
programs. It is quite conceivable some nuances will be uncovered as it
is used in many different environments and configurations. Please
report *any* problems immediately. Any problems requiring immediate
corrections (unrecoverable runtime errors, file corruption, etc) will
be corrected immediately and the new code will be made available for
downloading.

│ Be sure you have SHARE.EXE (if running under PC/MS DOS) and ANSI.SYS │
│ loaded! │
│ If you're using MS/MS DOS, there should be lines similar to the │
│ following in your CONFIG.SYS file. │
│ │
│ DEVICE=C:\DOS\ANSI.SYS │
│ DEVICE=C:\DOS\SHARE.EXE │
│ │
│ If this is not the case, please modify your CONFIG.SYS file and │
│ reboot before starting your installation. You may use your │
│ favorite ASCII editor to accomplish this. │
└──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┘
There are 4 files that make up InterBBS 1.0 (after IBBS10.ZIP is
unZIPped).
IBBS10-A.ZIP IBBS10-B.ZIP IBBS10-C.ZIP IBBS10-D.ZIP
1) Copy these four files to a temporary sub-directory on your hard
drive. If necessary create the temporary sub-directory.
One could do the following to accomplish this task on the "D"
drive. From a DOS prompt enter the following followed by pressing
the ENTER key.
D:
CD \
MD IBBSTMP
CD IBBSTMP
COPY A:INSTALL.EXE (or the correct drive & path to this file)
COPY A:IBBS10-?.ZIP (or the correct drive & path to these files)
The last line (COPY A:IBBS10-?.ZIP) assumes the IBBS10-?.ZIP files
are located on a floppy diskette in your "A" drive.
2) Run the program INSTALL.EXE. This will quickly install InterBBS.
3) Once the installation has completed, reboot your computer. You
need to then change to the drive and sub-directory you installed
IBBS on:
D:
CD\IBBS
You will find an unregistered copy of DSZxxxx.ZIP (xxxx = date of
release). You will need to unarchive this file in the \IBBS
directory. DSZ is needed before ANY files may be uploaded or
downloaded.
You have 30 days to evaluate DSZ. You may register DSZ and
other fine products by Chuck Forsberg for a nominal fee by
contacting:
Omen Technology, Inc.
P.O. Box 4681
Portland, OR 97208
(503) 621-3406 [Voice]
4) Now, change to the \IBBS\DOCS directory. The IBBS documentation
is conatined in the files IBBS10-A.DOC and IBBS10-B.DOC. Please
become familiar with the documentation prior to proceeding. You
may wish to print the documentation. You can use the DOS PRINT
command or print from your favorite ASCII text editor. If you use
DOS' PRINT command, type the following from a DOS prompt:
PRINT IBBS10-A.DOC
PRINT IBBS10-B.DOC
5) Change directory to the \IBBS\NODE1 sub-directory. RUN IBBSCFG.EXE
and customize your configuration. You *must* edit the entry for
the serial driver and comm port to use. These are found under
the "MODEM / NODE / SUBSCRIPTION" configuration selection.
Enjoy InterBBS!
