  8.       Thanks for taking the time to evaluate InterBBS Version 1.0.  This is a
  9.       MS/PC DOS based Bulletin Board System.  It will run admirably in a VDM
  10.       (virtual dos machine) under OS/2, under DESQview and under Windows.  A
  11.       suggested Windows ".PIF" is included.  Your system setup, memory and
  12.       capability will dictate the optimum settings.

  15.       InterBBS is written by Ron Pierce, also the author of several "door"
  16.       programs.  Ron has been writing bbs software since 1985.  He has
  17.       introduced several of the more popular features of DOS based bbs
  18.       program such as:
  19.       ■ resuming aborted/incomplete uploads.
  20.       ■ archive manipulations including reading of text files within archives
  21.         and downloading files from within archives.
  22.       ■ Highlight method of flagging files for download or selecting a file
  23.         to perform archive manipulations on.

  25.       HARDWARE/MEMORY REQUIREMENTS

  35.             InterBBS fully  supports up to 250 nodes with no restrictions!

  37.       FILE SHARING
  38.       ────────────
  39.             You must run SHARE.EXE prior to starting InterBBS if you are
  40.             using MS/PC DOS.  Advanced operating systems such as OS/2 handle
  41.             file sharing internally and transparently.

  43.       UNREGISTERED RESTRICTIONS
  44.       ─────────────────────────
  45.       Until registered, there is an "UNREGISTERED SHAREWARE" notice and a
  46.       brief pause when a user logs in.  There are no other inconveniences
  47.       while running an unregistered InterBBS nor is the software "crippled"
  48.       in any manner.

  50.       EVALUATE and DECIDE
  51.       ───────────────────
  52.       You are encouraged to evaluate InterBBS thoroughly.  One programmer has
  53.       created this entire BBS system including over 20 support and utility
  54.       programs.  It is quite conceivable some nuances will be uncovered as it
  55.       is used in many different environments and configurations.  Please
  56.       report *any* problems immediately.  Any problems requiring immediate
  57.       corrections (unrecoverable runtime errors, file corruption, etc) will
  58.       be corrected immediately and the new code will be made available for
  59.       downloading.

  97.       There are 4 files that make up InterBBS 1.0 (after IBBS10.ZIP is
  98.       unZIPped).

  100.           IBBS10-A.ZIP   IBBS10-B.ZIP   IBBS10-C.ZIP   IBBS10-D.ZIP

  102.       1)  Copy these four files to a temporary sub-directory on your hard
  103.           drive.  If necessary create the temporary sub-directory.
  104.           One could do the following to accomplish this task on the "D"
  105.           drive.  From a DOS prompt enter the following followed by pressing
  106.           the ENTER key.
  107.           D:
  108.           CD \
  109.           MD IBBSTMP
  110.           CD IBBSTMP
  111.           COPY A:INSTALL.EXE   (or the correct drive & path to this file)
  112.           COPY A:IBBS10-?.ZIP  (or the correct drive & path to these files)
  113.  
  114.           The last line (COPY A:IBBS10-?.ZIP) assumes the IBBS10-?.ZIP files
  115.           are located on a floppy diskette in your "A" drive.

  117.       2)  Run the program INSTALL.EXE.  This will quickly install InterBBS.
  118.  
  119.       3)  Once the installation has completed, reboot your computer.  You
  120.           need to then change to the drive and sub-directory you installed
  121.           IBBS on:
  122.           D:
  123.           CD\IBBS
  124.  
  125.           You will  find an unregistered copy of DSZxxxx.ZIP (xxxx = date of
  126.           release). You will need to unarchive this file in the \IBBS
  127.           directory. DSZ is needed before ANY files may be uploaded or
  128.           downloaded.
  129.           You have 30 days to evaluate  DSZ.  You may register DSZ  and
  130.           other fine products  by Chuck Forsberg  for a nominal  fee by

  137.       4)  Now,  change to the  \IBBS\DOCS directory.  The IBBS documentation
  138.           is conatined in the files IBBS10-A.DOC and IBBS10-B.DOC.  Please
  139.           become familiar with the documentation prior to proceeding.  You
  140.           may wish to print the documentation.  You can use the DOS PRINT
  141.           command or print from your favorite ASCII text editor.  If you use
  142.           DOS' PRINT command, type the following from a DOS prompt:
  143.           PRINT IBBS10-A.DOC
  144.           PRINT IBBS10-B.DOC
  145.  
  146.       5)  Change directory to the \IBBS\NODE1 sub-directory.  RUN IBBSCFG.EXE
  147.           and customize your configuration.  You *must* edit the entry for
  148.           the serial driver and comm port to use.  These are found under
  149.           the "MODEM / NODE / SUBSCRIPTION" configuration selection.
